College Road south of the Tollgate was developed in the 1870s with large Victorian houses for rich owners, and, when the leases ran out in the 1950s, it was redeveloped by Wates, and others, with houses targeted at more middle income buyers. The Wates estates along the road, and in the woods above, are of the best Mid century Modern houses in South London. This walk will cover the whole history of the road , from the early Nineteenth Century to the present day.
Access: The walk includes steep hills and there are several sets of steps
Approx. duration: Two hours
Numbers of tickets for walks are restricted for safety and to ensure that walkers are able to gather close enough to hear the walk leader.
