Dulwich Festival 2020 – Children’s Competitions

Dulwich Festival is launching three children’s competitions

School’s Sculpture Competition
In association with Plastic-Free East Dulwich and in keeping with this year’s theme of Sustainability, we are inviting schools to create a sculpture made entirely from recycled plastic. Sculptures must reflect the theme of Ocean Sustainability and can be a maximum of 2m x 3m. The bigger the better as these sculptures will be displayed at the Dulwich Park Fair on Sunday 17th May. They must be stable!

Local visual artist Katrina Russell-Adams will be assisting with this project and both Katrina and a representative from Plastic-Free East Dulwich will provide a talk at each participating school. Katrina hopes to enthuse children to think creatively about where their waste can be put to a different use. Winners will receive a prize for their school’s Art Department. More than one group per school may enter. The deadline for entries is end of school on the Tuesday 5th May.

Children’s Art Competition
The Festival theme is Sustainability and for the Children’s Art Competition we’d like to know what that means to you. There are four age group categories Under 5s, 5 to 7, 8 to 11 and 12 to 18. The artwork should be two dimensional, a maximum size of A3 and should include entrants’ name, age, school or club and parents’ name, telephone number and email address on the back so winners can be notified.

Please submit entries to R. Woodfall Opticians, 46 Lordship Lane before the deadline of 1pm on Saturday 2nd May. 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes in each age category will be vouchers to spend at the Art Stationers in Dulwich Village. Prize-winners will have their artwork displayed in the windows of local shops.

Festival Flash Fiction Competition
Fancy yourself as the next JK Rowling or David Walliams? Can you write a short compelling story with a maximum of 400 words? Now’s your chance to find the writer within you! All ages may submit an entry and the story can be about anything you choose. The deadline for entries is midnight on Saturday 4th April.
