Entry Instructions for the Dulwich Festival Flash Fiction Competition 2023

Entry Instructions
Please ensure you read these entry instructions and rules carefully before entering the competition. Entry implies acceptance of all the rules and terms and conditions. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

The deadline for entries is 30th April 2023

Our entry instructions are for ease of administration it is helpful if you endeavour to follow them. BUT if you forget anything or add the details in the wrong place your entry will NOT be disqualified.

Please note: we only disqualify entries if they include personnel details in the entry file which identify the author or they are over the word limit, or are judged to violate UK law, or are shown not to be the work of the entrant, or are shown to have already been published or have already been placed in another competition.

Format Instructions
Type and format the flash fiction entry as per the following instructions:

Written in English, translation into English of your own work is accepted.
Maximum of 400 words, no minimum.
The title should be the first line of the document.
Any dedication should be included on a separate line following the title in the format: Dedicated to <description>. The dedication should not name a person in a way that could identify the entrant (e.g. Dedicated to my wife Claire Windsor).
Add the word count to bottom of the document (e.g. Word Count = 385). The title and any dedication are not included in the word count.
Use any plain font, 14pt, black. (please avoid highly graphic fonts).
If your entry runs to two pages, number both pages centre bottom.
Save the file as a Microsoft Word document – .doc or .docx. We also accept file types .pdf, .txt. Maximum allowed file size is 2Mb.
The file name should be the title of the story only, typed exactly the same as on the document, for example: The Cat in The Hat.
Entries are judged anonymously. Do not include your name in the file title. Please do not include your name, address, phone number, email, website, twitter handle, facebook, Instagram, Linkedin or similar account details on the document. In either cases the entry will be disqualified.
Do not put other descriptors such as Dulwich Festival flash fiction entry in the file title.
For untitled pieces, save the document with the file name as the first 7 words of the entry (excluding the dedication).

Online Entries
To enter online you must first register for an account HERE.

In your account you will be able to see all the entries you have made.
You will be able to update your contact details at any time by logging in. You will also be able to send messages related to your entry.

Before you upload your entry make sure you have read the entry instructions and agree the rules of participation – failure to comply may result in disqualification.

The title of your flash fiction MUST also be the file name of your uploaded document.

If your entry is untitled, please use the first seven words of the entry as the file name.

Please do not include your name in the file title or your work will be disqualified.

You can enter up to three separate entries.

Once your file has been received and collected by the organisers you will receive an email acknowledgement.

Judging
The judges’ decision is final and no individual correspondence can be entered into. Judges are unable to comment on individual entries but they may comment on the winning and commended entries. Dulwich Festival reserves the right to change the panel of judges without notice.

Results
The winners and highly commended winners will be contacted by email.

The results will be posted on the website.
