Eileen Cooper RA: Lyrical – Artist’s Talk
Oliver Projects Gallery, East Dulwich, is proud to announce a solo exhibition of previously unseen works on paper by Royal Academician Eileen Cooper.
‘Lyrical’ will present a series of 14 ink, pastel and watercolour drawings made in response to a group of poems written by critically acclaimed writer Denise Riley. Exploring womanhood, empathy, love, dreams, and the unexpected – themes running throughout both Riley’s and Cooper’s practices – the works are intimate in scale and rich in narrative.
In Cooper’s words: ‘It was such a joy working from Denise’s poems, which are outside of my own experience. As an artist, you’re constantly looking for new imagery and challenges, so it’s a gift when somebody you admire suggests collaborating. It gives me a chance to inhabit a different world, guided here, by the writer.’
All works in the exhibition are unique and available for sale with prices around £1600 for framed works. A new limited edition print by the artist will also be launched to coincide with the exhibition.
